சொட்டு நீர் பாசனம் — 50% தண்ணீர் மிச்சம், 30% அதிக மகசூல் | Complete Drip Irrigation Setup, Cost & Subsidy Guide 2026
50% LESS WATER
"சொட்டு நீர் பாசனம் என் farm-ல் நான் செய்த மிக சிறந்த முதலீடு. Drip irrigation is the single best investment I've made on my farm — more than any fertiliser, more than any machine."
— Kavin, Thalavadi, Erode 🌾ஏன் Drip Irrigation? — Why Every Acre Needs This
நான் Kavin — Thalavadi, Erode. தக்காளி, கத்தரிக்காய், பீன்ஸ் எல்லா பயிர்களிலும் drip irrigation பயன்படுத்துகிறேன், and the difference it has made on my farm is dramatic. Less water, less disease, more yield, and far less daily walking-and-watering work.
Traditional flood irrigation wastes 50–60% of water to evaporation and runoff. Drip irrigation puts water exactly where the root needs it, drop by drop — நேரடியாக வேரில் தண்ணீர் சேர்கிறது. Roots grow deeper, the soil surface stays dry, and that means fewer weeds and much less fungal disease.
The best part for Tamil Nadu farmers — the government pays up to 100% subsidy for small and marginal farmers. A system worth ₹21,000/acre can cost you almost nothing if you qualify. This guide covers exactly how to set it up and how to claim it. 💧

₹1,500–3,000Setup Guide — எப்படி Install செய்வது
- Before buying anything
📐 Plan Your Layout
Measure the field, mark the water source, and draw the pipe route. Take this map to your dealer to finalise quantities and avoid wasted material.
- Most important first step
🏗️ Install the Filter Unit
Connect sand filter, then screen filter, straight after the pump. Clean every 2 weeks — this alone prevents 90% of emitter clogs.
- The backbone
🔵 Lay Main & Sub-Main Lines
Bury the main line 15–20cm deep along the border. Use proper fittings at every joint — cheap fittings leak and drop pressure across the whole field.
- One per crop row
⚫ Lay Lateral (Drip) Pipes
Roll laterals along each row. Tomato/brinjal: 45–60cm emitter spacing. Coconut: 2 emitters per tree in a ring. Press end caps firmly.
- Always test before planting
✅ Test & Flush
Run water 10 minutes with end caps open to flush debris. Check every emitter, check pressure at the far end, then close caps and begin.
Government Subsidy — Get Drip Almost FREE
Tamil Nadu offers the highest drip subsidy in India under PMKSY. Who gets what:
| Category | Subsidy | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Small & Marginal Farmers (below 2.5 acres) | 100% | 🟢 Highest |
| SC/ST Farmers (all categories) | 100% | 🟢 Highest |
| Women Farmers (all categories) | 90% | 🟢 High |
| Other Farmers (above 2.5 acres) | 75% | 🟡 Standard |
Documents needed: Aadhaar, Patta/Chitta, bank passbook with IFSC, 2 photos, farmer ID — visit your Block Agriculture Extension Officer, buy only from an approved dealer, and follow up every 2 weeks. Processing takes 30–60 days and the subsidy is credited directly to your bank account.
Maintenance — பராமரிப்பு
Clean Filters Weekly
Backwash every 7–10 days — prevents 80% of all clogging problems.
Flush Laterals Monthly
Open end caps, run 5 minutes to clear sediment before it blocks emitters.
Check Emitters Regularly
Dry patches mean a blocked emitter — replace immediately, they cost ₹2–5 each.
Protect from Sun
Store laterals in shade after harvest, or bury 5cm deep to add 3–4 years of life.
Acid Flush Every 6 Months
Diluted citric acid (1%) dissolves calcium deposits — doubles emitter life.
End-of-Season Storage
Flush, drain, store in shade. Proper storage: 10–12 years vs 4–5 left in field.
Investment vs Savings — 1 Acre Breakdown
Even at the 75% tier, your out-of-pocket cost drops to roughly ₹5,000/acre. On my own tomato and brinjal plot, water usage fell 45%, leaf disease dropped 60%, and yield rose 25% — the system paid for itself in one season.
சொட்டு நீர் பாசனம் ஒரு செலவு அல்ல, ஒரு முதலீடு. Every acre you convert saves water for the next season, cuts your labour, and puts more money in your hand at harvest. If you qualify for subsidy, there's really no reason to wait — apply this season. 🌾
