நான் Kavin — Thalavadi, Erode. Between turmeric, groundnut and sugarcane, my farm income comes in long, uneven cycles — some months nothing, some months a lump sum. I needed something that paid in between, without taking time away from the actual crops.
A neighbour suggested goats almost in passing — "you already have the fodder bunds and crop waste, why are you burning it?" He was right. I built a small shed behind the cattle area, started with six does and one buck, and within five months had my first kids ready for sale. It's not a separate business, it runs alongside the farm using what the farm already produces. This is what I learned setting it up.

Keeps feet dry, droppings fall throughBamboo or wood slats raised 2–3 feet off the ground. This single change cut foot-rot problems almost completely compared to the ground pen I started with.

A healthy young doe with good lineage sells for noticeably more than the same animal sold for meat.

The setup cost is one-time — does and shed don't get rebought every year. From year two onward, the same does keep kidding with only feed and vet cost remaining, so the actual margin improves a lot once the initial investment is behind you.
